What’s Your Church Like?

We’ve all been asked this question from time to time. I think it’s a great question and deserves for us to give it well formed answer. So, I thought I’d take this post to let you know what Calvary is like in 4 simple thoughts.

It’s intentional

The first thing that defines us is that we are intentional. From our service to our fellowship everything we do is on purpose. Not just any purpose, our purpose. Calvary has a purpose in Ely. Our purpose is simple. To cultivate a community founded on love, acceptance & authenticity. And to host gatherings (from services to fellowship meetings) which allow the Church to worship, encounter God and be equipped for their life’s ministry. Nothing we do is outside of this purpose. We have direction, we have life.

It’s familiar

Calvary is similar to other Churches you and I have been to. We have regular meetings, a service order and way we do things that resemble the way many churches do things. We also show love at every opportunity. Love is a familiar ingredient in a church, so we sprinkle on love and all of it’s familiar forms such as kindness, generosity, patience, etc.

It’s different

We are also different than every other church and that is a good thing. We have worked intentionally for many years in order to “do church” and “do life” in ways that are unique to our staff and our congregation. Different is good, especially in church. We celebrate finding unity inside of our diversity.

It’s family

Above all our church is family. Not just a family, but if “family” could be a verb… that’s us! We have a huge desire to see that every guest and member feels that they belong to this family! We express this desire in simple things like greeting everyone well when we meet to caring for one another’s practical needs in the spirit of service.

These are just 4 highlights that will give you a good idea of what our church is like. What is your church like? Let me know in the comments below!

I’m Keith and I’m the Pastor at Calvary in Ely. I care for you and want you to know our church is a safe, welcoming place where you will fit right in! I’m praying for you.
