Train Your Brain to Reign – Part 4

II. THE BUILDING – Change Yourself!

Jude 1:20

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost

building up yourselves” – These words are very powerful in their meaning. They mean to build up, to finish the structure of which foundation has already been laid.
Note: Many believers may take offense at the words, “Change Yourself.” We like the convenience of avoiding responsibility by the deceptive thinking that God alone is responsible to change us. Well the Word of God is overrun with scripture declaring our responsibility to finish the structuring of our lives to conform with the foundation already laid! We’ve all heard the – “without him I can do nothing” mentality – but the fact is without us he can do nothing either. He will not take the responsibilities that nurtures you to be irresponsible any more than any earthly parent would who has any sense regarding the proper nurturing of their own children.

Scripture: Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Question: Who do you think the “I can” refers to here? What sequence of action do you see between the two parties involved in this scripture?
Note: The believer takes the initiative with the “I can” and Christ responds “through” that initiative to instill the needed strength! The strength of Christ follows the responsibility of the believer!

I call this – “The Self-Ministry of the Believer”

Where you take the responsibility to begin ministering to yourself, building up what may be broken down or never established within you.

HOW DO YOU START THE BUILDING TO CHANGE YOURSELF?

1. YOU MUST RENOVATE YOUR SELF-CONSTRUCTION! – This means you must fix what has been wrongly built in you! Through the events and relationships of life and how you have allowed them to “enter” you, you have “constructed” yourself within. You have built a certain way you respond to life mentally, emotionally, and spiritually! What you have constructed within will determine how your life is constructed around you! What has been DESIGNED within you will determine your DESTINY before you!
Question: When you think of what you are within, you must ask yourself if this is what you want to determine your destiny that lies before you?
Scripture: Proverbs 23:7

For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he

Note: This scripture is making the declaration that just as a man has trained himself to reckon things so will it be. How you have built things in you will determine how things will go for you.

(This portion of teaching is designed to tell you where to begin the building process, as we progress into this work, we will clearly define how to do the building.)

2. YOU MUST RECOGNIZE THAT WHAT YOU BELIEVE AT ANY GIVEN TIME IS HOW YOU WILL BEHAVE OR RESPOND AT ANY GIVEN TIME! – This means if you are going to successfully change your responses to any given situation, you must change what you believe about yourself and the situation if you intend to conquer.

Note: As we progress into this study you will come to discover what has made you the way you are – Why you believe the way you do in response to the positive and negative in your life. Why you respond the way you do in the positive and negative in your life. As you come to know these things you will learn what is God-Built, Self-Built, or Enemy-Built. With this knowledge of yourself, you will then be able to effectively breakdown what has been wrongfully built in you, and reconstruct what must be rightfully built in you.
Scripture: Luke 8:24

And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.

Question: What do you see wrong with what has been built in the disciples lives here? Do you recognize the serious contradiction of what is within them that has made them unable to properly respond to the storm they were in? Ask yourself, “How does calling one Master over your life and expecting to perish in a time of difficulty go together?”
Note: Something was built in them that made them able to recognize him as the Master – That was good because it told them to go to him in a time of trouble. But – Something was also built in them that made them unable to apply his “Mastery” over the situations of their lives – That was not good for they voiced the expectancy of perishing! WRONG RESPONSE REVEALS THE NEED FOR RECONSTRUCTION!

3. YOU MUST RECONSTRUCT IN YOU WHAT GOD WOULD RECONSTRUCT IN YOU! – This means – find out what God wants built in you and start the building. Find out what he wants to remove and tear down, find what he wants to renovate and rebuild.

Scripture: Ephesians 4:22

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

The word “conversation” actually means – your manner of life, conduct, and behavior.

Note: There are specific instructions given here in regard to what must be done by us concerning our behavior and conduct at all times. You may have the tendency to go into different behavior patterns according to the different types of situations you encounter. At one moment you may behave very joyfully because the conditions are favorable around you. Once the conditions throw you an unexpected curve, suddenly your behavior goes into an unexpected curve. You move into fear, doubt, and unbelief. Everything breaks down inside of you because everything seems to be breaking down around you. This should be a signal to you that you do not draw your life from the Lord, your life finds it’s flow from the way the current of your outward experiences are flowing. This is a serious indication that you need “RECONSTRUCTION!” Something must be “put off” and something must be “renewed” within you. Your outward behavior reveals your true inward condition!

Two Instructions:

First – “Put off the former conversation” (or behavior, conduct)
This means – to carry no longer, to set aside and fix it. I want you to take note that You are the one being told to take the responsibility for your behavior. You must do the fixing and setting aside of those “unpredictable behaviors.” God does not give you the liberty to behave out of control just because you’re facing difficult times.

Secondly – “be renewed in the spirit of your mind”
This phrase means to renovate the way you perceive and determine the things concerning your life. The meaning includes the way you think, feel, reason and respond. When renovating any property it involves a tearing down process as well as a rebuilding process!

Question: What level of responsibility have you taken about your behavior, or your reactions to the negative situations of life? Are you a “mover” of your situations or do your situations move you? If you are one who is easily shaken, then you need to ask yourself, “How much longer do I want to live this way?” Someone or something will be conquered in every situation, “Why not conquer your behavior tendencies and in turn conquer your situation?” Why would you rather be conquered by your own misbehavior and thus be conquered by your situations your facing?

4. YOU MUST REMOVE THE PERCEPTIONS OF THE ENEMY! – Because the enemy is a master in “training” you how to think and react, you must remove all the infiltration of the enemy from your thought processes! Once difficulty arises in your life, the enemy immediately seeks to “formulate” how you will think about that problem. This is the reason for (3) above. To think his way is to go his way!

Scripture: Ephesians 2:2

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience

Note: This scripture declares that people who do not know Christ “walk” according to the Enemy who is the prince and power of the air.

Walk(eth)” – means to conduct one’s life according to. In the following scripture you are instructed as a believer to remove or “cast down” what the enemy has taught you to “imagine” about your life.
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 10:5

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ

Question: What do you see in this scripture that is “against God?” What needs to be removed? (We will look at this in detail later in this study)
Note: So far we have discovered the numerous reasons why it is necessary to “Train Your Brain to Reign!”
