Deacons are important to the Church! The word “Deacon” comes from a Greek word Jesus used for a servant in this verse:
Luke 22:24-27 – Then they began to argue among themselves about who would be the greatest among them. 25 Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ 26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. 27 Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves.
People who dedicate themselves to serving the Body of Christ (people in their Church) take on an essential characteristic of Jesus. This is why He says, ” For I am among you as one who serves.” At Calvary, we provide an opportunity for our members to serve through the office of a deacon.
1 Timothy 3:13 – For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
We provide classes and training for anyone wanting to serve as a deacon at Calvary. Deacons serve in ministries and areas of need at our Church.
